CHILD CENTERED COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (CCCD)
Over the years, we focused on supporting an individual child without addressing structural problems within his/her environment. There was need to make a shift from individual approach to community based approach to support children at risks by addressing the root causes of the problems they were experiencing. This called for a shift from input based design (individual child sponsorship) to outcome based design that focuses on the desired results for enhanced child well being.
In the recent past, the organization adapted a child friendly approach whereby children and youth from low income households are being supported through socio-economic empowerment program. This is done through Child Centred Community Development (CCCD) model where the focus is on holistic child development. This approach seeks to empower individual members of the community who have low income by providing them with the relevant skills and knowledge they need to effect change in their environment. The program reaches out to care givers especially women with skills that enable them to increase income for the well being of the child, youth and the community.
Between the year 2011-2016 ,the paradigm shift saw the establishment of CCCD programs in three counties namely;
a. Matuu –Machakos County
